Thoughts
'Most people think of sunset as that moment when the big orange ball slides below the horizon line. For me, sunset is that last bounce of light off the low clouds in the sky, and darkness settles over the land. I call it 'Sweet Light', because like the goodnight kiss my Mother used to give me at bedtime, it's one of the sweetest moments in life. It's also my favorite time as a photographer, that time when all the running around is done, and there's nothing left to do but sit and wait for the magical moment. At such times, I find my thoughts to be clearest and I sometimes read, or simply sit and reflect on my perception of the moment.
A dear friend once told me
"...the treasure of your mind
sparkles utmost when shared."
And so, I hope the sharing of these insights in addition to my images will indeed make my mind a better place to live, (if not the world :o) so I'd like to share this collection of journal entries as another way of conveying to you my vision as a photographer.
Thank you for spending this time with me '

'In our lives
we experience moments
of unsurpassed beauty
of great joy
of insight and wisdom
of ecstasy
as well as those of sadness
and tragedy.
We cannot anticipate
the impact these moments have
on us
on our relationships
but these moments
our personal history
and as such define us
define our humanity
To capture these moments
by image or word
is to reveal a glimpse
of the mystery of our own evolution
of who we are'

'As with a impressionists painting
the image of this thing is clear
but just so
we can look upon it
but cannot enter
for it is two dimensional
and our world is three
At best
we can only remember
and try to emulate
to recapture that moment
in our minds
and be grateful'
d
'Every day is perfect;
I will allow neither expectations
nor preconceived notions
deny for me
the joy of discovery
and acceptance
in each and every day'
d
'My life is rich for the ability to find
the beauty of a feather in a thorn bush
with my eye
and to caress the thought of it
with my mind.
I suppose i would be richer still
were this ability full time
but I think it's the ups and downs of life
that gives me such a wonderful purchase.'
d
'Life is an adventure,
and for those willing to go forward
unafraid with open minds
and open hearts
there is no greater joy
than the joy of discovery.'

'In every man there is a wildness
an unbridled desire to go
and do
and be
each to his own nature
in contrast to the restraints of society
to live in the wild places of the world
where the law of nature is the only truth
a truth not to be feared
but revered for its simplicity.
This wild place dwells within me still
it is a beautiful place
where my heart runs free.'

'We are each of us travelers by nature,
our individual journey motivated
sometimes by a desire
to quell the restlessness of the heart,
sometimes to escape
the mayhem of our work-a-day existence
yet there is a purer motive
that simple honest curiosity to discover
that compelling need to see
what lies just around the next bend.
There are many roads,
some less traveled than others,
but none are without their wonders
and rewards to the open heart
and mind.
One of the greatest joys to a traveler
is the occasion these adventures afford
to cross the paths of others,
to share their insights on our world
and our lives,
and to allow the influence these experiences
alter the course of our own path.'
